Even as the media debated the merits of those rumored to be in contention for Pompano Beach's GM post, team officials were furiously wrapping up negotiations with Neil Thomas.
In a mid-afternoon press conference, Thomas was trotted out to answer a flurry of questions from the startled media. Asked if he could handle the job, Thomas responded testily, "That's why they hired me. I know the team has issues, but look around the Florida Prospect League and show me a team that doesn't." |

He may have less experience than most of his Florida Prospect League peers, but that didn't slow Adro Maga down at all in 2044.
At the age of 23, the Daytona Beach first baseman has been named the winner of the Florida Prospect League Most Valuable Player.
He had a .390 batting average and a .484 on-base percentage this year. In 28 games he piled up 41 hits, 4 doubles, 2 triples, 13 home runs, 30 RBIs and 28 runs scored.
"I'm blown away by the season I was able to put together," he said. "I'm looking forward to trying to do it all again next year."
He received 27 first place votes out of a possible 32. Shane Wilkinson of the Melbourne Storm finished second in voting with 4 first place votes, while Joaquín Álvarez of the Cocoa Beach Aztecs finished third with 1 first place vote.
