Pearls Lose Late, 6-3
|
The Sydney Sharks defeated the Tokyo Pearls, 6-3, in Global Baseball Consortium action at Blacktown International Sportspark. Wasim Ala' pulled his weight. The 1-year veteran went 2-4 with 2 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Sydney reliever Jeremy Donahue picked up the win, while Naruhiko Kawano took the loss for Tokyo. Sydney, now 66-78, holds down 7th place in the GBC.
The game was all tied up in the bottom of the eighth, until Ala' delivered big-time for Sydney, stroking a dramatic 2-run single off Naruhiko Kawano. The game-changing hit put the Sharks on top, 5-3.
Ala' said his team "played with determination."
