Fighting Centaurs Drop Sharks, 2-1

The Sydney Sharks could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Travis Wearne into a win. Instead, the Athens Fighting Centaurs prevailed, 2-1. Wearne threw 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball. Robby Mahoney got the save, his 22nd in 24 chances. The Athens win streak is now 3 games.
The Fighting Centaurs got a big at-bat from first baseman Adel bin Husam al Din. For the game, bin Husam al Din was 1 for 2 with a home run, while scoring 2. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 8th home run of the season gave Athens a 2-1 lead.
"We had the right guys up at the right times," said Sydney manager Jim Sánchez. "We just didn't cash in."
