Pearls Turn Back Athens, 5-3
|
The Tokyo Pearls overcame a fine performance by Athens right fielder Max Shepperson to defeat the Fighting Centaurs, 5-3, at Piraeus Park. Shepperson went 2 for 4 with a home run. Picking up the save was Filippio Ioriatti. He's now 6 for 7 in save chances. Tokyo now has a record of 42-33 with the win.
Tokyo used a well-timed hit by Fa-tang Situ to capture the win. The second baseman socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the second inning to put the Pearls ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
In comments to the Tokyo Daily News, Situ insisted that he's not as disinterested as it often appears. "Haters will hate," he added.
