Moreno Gets Number 3500
Sunday, July 7th , 2058
It was a great day for Fernando Moreno of the Mexico City Aztecs -- but not a perfect day. He became the latest player to reach the 3500-hit mark, but his team lost the game. The 39-year-old left fielder got his hit in Mexico City's 6-4 loss to Rockville.
"It was a very special game for me, but not a good one for the team," said Moreno after the game. Commenting on his achievement to reporters, he told them, "3500 hits are a lot. It puts you in a very select group. You have to hit well over a lot of seasons to do this. It's a good feeling to have your name in the record books with the other guys who have reached this level."
He finished the day with 1 hit in 4 at-bats.
Moreno is hitting at a .309 rate over his 2779-game career. Lifetime he has 738 doubles, 113 triples and 298 home runs with 1328 RBIs and 1866 runs scored.
