Aztecs Topple Spuds, 8-1, as Rivera Shines
|
The 8-1 Mexico City win over Boise was due in large part to Alfonso Rivera. The Aztecs first baseman went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. Mexico City starter Vassilis Zorba was credited with the win after throwing 102 pitches over 7 innings. His record now stands at 13-8. The save went to Jack Abrams, number 3 for him.
It could have been a different outcome for Mexico City, had it not been for Félix Román, the three-time Yogi Zimmer Diamond Glove Award winner . Román contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put Mexico City up, 3-0.
Román told a local reporter: "My job is to go out and play as hard as I can."
The win puts the Aztecs at 69-67, while the Spuds drop to 70-66.
