Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Surfers
|
In a close game at Vito Costantino Memorial Stadium, the Long Beach Surfers edged the Hawaii Tropics, 5-4. Long Beach left fielder Glenn Fox stood apart with his performance. He went 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times. Long Beach reliever Owen McKelvey was credited with the win, to go to 4-3. Utkan Göçek took the loss for Hawaii. The win makes Long Beach 69-60.
In the bottom of the ninth, with two out and the game tied, 4-4, right fielder Cinema Jones won it for Long Beach. With a runner on 2nd, Jones hit a 0-1 cutter from Utkan Göçek for a run-scoring single, giving his team the 5-4 win.
"Winning in the last at-bat, there's nothing else like it," said Jones.
