Stars Knock Off Lumberjacks at The Trail in Multnomah
|
The Valencia Stars took Portland pitcher John Simons's best shot and still were able to claim a win at The Trail in Multnomah. The final score had Valencia getting past the Lumberjacks, 5-3. Simons went 5.2 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 5. Martin Román closed the door for Valencia, picking up his 3rd save of the year. The defeat makes Portland 0-5.
Valencia needed the clutch hitting of Kenny Blackwell to notch the win. The third baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Stars on top, 5-3. For the game, Blackwell had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"This is truly a great team to play with," Blackwell said after the game. "We're like brothers, and when we come together to pull out the win, that just makes it all the better."
