Mad Popes Win, Montoya 3-3
|
The Sacramento Mad Popes grabbed a win, 6-4, over the Portland Lumberjacks at The Trail in Multnomah. Sacramento right fielder José Montoya was 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Joe King, the winning pitcher, improved to 6-0. He pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 6 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 6 and walking 1. Sacramento goes to 18-14.
Sacramento used the timely hitting of Badr Isam to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Mad Popes on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We'll sip on a cold one and savor this win," said Montoya.
