The inspired effort of Boise third baseman Mahine Karetu was not enough to prevent a loss, 6-5, to the Mexico City Aztecs. Karetu was 3-5 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI. The winner was Johnny Nicholson in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Toshikuni Kubo took the loss. The win has Mexico City at 11-12.

Mexico City used a well-timed hit by Alfonso Rivera to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Aztecs ahead, 5-2. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.

"We ground out the win," said Rivera. "That's all that matters."
