Nashville overcame a superior effort from Tommy Akers to beat Des Moines, 6-3. The Des Moines pitcher threw 6.2 innings of shutout ball. Nashville reliever Giustino Modica picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Brick Pollitt was saddled with the loss. The hot start continues for the defending champion Bluebirds. This was their 8th win in 11 games.
Brooks Eliot, who finished 2nd in the FL in batting average with .353 last year, contributed to the Nashville win with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the tenth. For the game, the shortstop had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI.
"Our team found a way to get it done," said Eliot.
