Win Goes to Kernels in Tight Contest
Des Moines second baseman Miguel Martínez was a significant contributor in his team's 6-2 triumph over the Portland Lumberjacks. He was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Kernels. Des Moines reliever Brick Pollitt picked up the win, upping his record to 1-4. Bernie Stuart was saddled with the loss. The Kernels now own a record of 49-53.

Pedro Gongora, who is a three-time Yogi Zimmer Diamond Glove Award winner, helped out the Des Moines cause in the bottom of the seventh inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the shortstop went 1-2 with a walk.
