The Des Moines Kernels beat the Sacramento Mad Popes, 4-1, at Edward Murphy Memorial Stadium. Starting pitcher Dave Lachance was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Garth Dobbs closed the game out for Des Moines, earning his 12th save. The Kernels go to 45-52, putting them 5th in the Frick League Heartland Division.

In the bottom of the first inning, center fielder Sonny Bigalow delivered a key hit for the Kernels. With Des Moines trailing 1-0, he ripped a solo home run.

"I'm glad we can make our fans happy with a win," Bigalow told the Des Moines Daily News.
