Tokyo Hands Sao Paulo 7-4 Defeat
|
The Tokyo Pearls relied on the hitting of right fielder Chris Thomas to stop the Sao Paulo Pilots, 7-4. For the game, Thomas went 3-5 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Tokyo pitcher Deron Alexander got the win. He's now 9-12. Stan Smit was tagged with the loss. Naruhiko Kawano recorded the save, his 8th.
Ismael Zumaya was 1-3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for Tokyo. The 32-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the sixth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Iván Ruíz. It was his 19th RBI of the season.
"We'll kick back tonight and enjoy this win," said Thomas.
The Pearls, at 78-74, sit in third place in the GBC.
