In a low-scoring game between London and Tokyo, pitcher Rafael Gómez was excellent. The London right-hander helped his team knock off the Pearls, 2-1. Reliever Ricardo Martínez picked up the win. His record improves to 1-2. Filippio Ioriatti took the loss. Michihiro Tanaka got the save, his 27th in 28 chances.
London took a 2-1 lead on Brad Parkinson's 23rd home run of the season. The solo home run came off Tokyo pitcher Filippio Ioriatti in the bottom of the eighth.
"The old adage is true," said Parkinson. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
The GBC-leading Monarchs are 57-42.
