Sao Paulo starter Mrej Stavnicky pitched well against the Tokyo Pearls at Ballpark of Bucharest. The right-hander led his team to a win, 3-1. Iván Ruíz sewed up the save, his 20th. The 6th-place Pilots have won 4 straight games.
The Pearls had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Pilots going into the bottom of the third inning. That changed quickly when the 38-year old right fielder Masamichi Kubo came to the plate. Kubo hit a 2-run home run on a full count sinker from Tokyo hurler Tommy Boele. It was Kubo's 8th home run of the year.
"Can't say enough about our pitching," said Kubo.
