Fighting Centaurs Earn 7-6 Win Versus Sydney
Despite a fine performance by center fielder Wasim Ala', the Sydney Sharks lost to the Athens Fighting Centaurs, 7-6. Ala' went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Athens reliever Esteban Arquiza was credited with the win, to go to 3-2. Miguel Hernández took the loss for Sydney. Max Dawe picked up the save for Athens, his 11th of the year.

Had Chuk-yan Lian not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 1st, Lian hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Fighting Centaurs.

Fighting Centaurs manager Otto Sandschulte wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."

Athens is now 24-39. Sydney is 26-34.
