The exploits of designated hitter Pedro Hozven, who finished 3rd in the JL in on-base percentage with .402 in 2056, helped the Boise Spuds defeat the Phoenix Talons, 7-0. Hozven went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Doug Eckhoff was the winning pitcher. Over 5 innings, he allowed no runs on no hits, with 6 walks and 3 strikeouts. The 5th-place Spuds raised their record to 76-74.

In the top of the first, Hozven pounced on a first pitch sinker from Slobodan Omeragic and hit a 2-run home run. It put Boise on top, 2-0.

"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Boise manager Mario Contreras.
