The Vancouver Vandals had to overcome a big game from Anaheim left fielder Steve Brandon to leave River Front Field with a victory. And they did, winning, 8-6. Brandon went 4-4 with a double and 3 singles, while scoring 2 times. Earning his 1st save of the year was Víctor Gamboa. The Angels fall to 10-20 and continue their lackluster start in 2172.

Fernando Gómez, who finished 3rd in the NL in wins above replacement with 5.7 in 2161, helped out the Vancouver cause in the top of the seventh inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the right fielder went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.

Vandals manager John Heinz wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
