Red Sox Earn Clutch Win, 2-1
|
Boston registered a win at Petco Park by beating the San Diego Padres, 2-1. Pitcher William Shaw was one reason why the Red Sox triumphed. The winning pitcher was Shaw, now 1-1. He tossed 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 5. Norman Holley closed the game out for Boston, earning his 2nd save.
Boston needed the clutch hitting of Victor Crawford to notch the win. The second baseman hammered a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Red Sox on top, 2-1. For the game, Crawford had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"I found a nice groove out there," said Shaw.
The Padres, at 4-11, have stumbled out of the gate.
