The Anaheim Angels got a superb performance from pitcher Paul Burkett. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Vancouver. The Vandals won the game, 2-1. Burkett threw 5.0 innings allowing 1 run. Clement Bibbs closed the game out for Vancouver, earning his 16th save. The second-place Vandals go to 77-78.

Vancouver used a timely hit from Wally Pearson to get the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Vandals ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.

"There was no wiggle room in this one," said Pearson.
