Late Rally Earns Chicago 3-1 Win
|
In a tight game between the Chicago Cubs and the Washington Nationals, pitcher Stephen Sanders was terrific on the mound. The Chicago right-hander helped his team to the 3-1 win. Geoff McAllister, 3-3, earned the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 2.1 innings. The Cubs improved to 77-70.
Don Wooten came through with a big-time hit for Chicago. The designated hitter smacked a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 2-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"Every loss stings," said Washington manager Jake Cole. "This one is no exception."
