Vancouver catcher Manuel Cruz had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Cruz was 2 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks, even as New York beat the Vandals, 7-4. Douglas Davidson, now 6-3, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 0 and walking 1. The Yankees go to 53-77 with the win.

With the bases empty and no one out in the top of the ninth inning, designated hitter Tom Brown delivered big for the Yankees. New York was trailing 3-2 when he belted a solo home run.

"It's still just a game," said Brown, "whether you win or lose."
