Rays Tack 5-2 Loss on Braves
|
The Tampa Bay Rays picked up a win at Turner Field, knocking off the Atlanta Braves, 5-2. Starting pitcher Erwin Pend played a key role in the triumph. In 6 innings, Pend surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 0. He allowed 2 runs. Picking up the save was 36-year old left-handed pitcher Bill Phillips.
The Rays got a big hit from third baseman Esteban Martínez. Facing Atlanta pitcher Vincent Henbrooke in the top of the sixth, Martínez pounded a solo home run to left. His 20th home run of the season put the Rays ahead, 4-2.
"We'll keep playing hard and let the chips fall where they may," said Tampa Bay manager Brox Bombers.
Tampa Bay has now won 4 straight.
