Walker Slugs Padres to 7-2 Win
|
San Diego first baseman Roger Walker was instrumental in helping the Padres triumph, 7-2, over the New York Yankees. Walker hit 3 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored three times. Fred Curtis, the winning pitcher, is now 5-6. He went 6 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits, while fanning 6 and walking 4. The Yankees, at 43-49, have lost 4 in a row.
Pedro Serrano had a big solo home run for the Padres in the top of the third inning. With San Diego leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a changeup from Jason Perkins, who is tied for 7th in the NL in quality starts with 10, and punished it. The result was his 13th home run of the season, which put the Padres on top, 2-0.
"We just try to have good at-bats, whether we're winning, losing, or tied," said Walker.
