Yankees Beat Brewers, 8-2
|
The New York Yankees defeated the Milwaukee Brewers, 8-2, in part because of center fielder Dan Holland. Holland went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 and driving in 2 for the Yankees. Jason Perkins, the winning pitcher, improved to 8-3. He pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 5 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 6 and walking 1. New York is now 40-43, while Milwaukee is 31-50.
The Brewers had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Yankees going into the top of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 27-year old first baseman Brody Smith came to the plate. Smith hit a solo home run on a first pitch curveball from Milwaukee hurler Thomas Daniels. It was Smith's 13th home run of the year.
"The effort wasn't good enough," said losing manager Brian Rein.
