Rays Top Red Sox, 5-1, to Begin WC
|
The Tampa Bay Rays powered past the hometown Boston Red Sox, 5-1, in the opener of the Wild Card at Fenway Park. Tampa Bay starting pitcher Bill Miller threw 6.1 innings of shutout ball, to lead the charge. The Rays now lead the series 1-0.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Lee Cook? The Tampa Bay right fielder had a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth inning to put the Rays on top, 1-0. For the game, Cook had 1 double and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
Red Sox manager Steve Spicol did not take questions after the game, telling assembled reporters that he would hold a press conference "if and when we win the World Series."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Tuesday, October 6th , 2172.
