The New York Yankees topped the Pittsburgh Pirates, 9-1, in National League action at Three Rivers Stadium. The game was highlighted by the performance of New York right fielder Ray Mn. Lowell Curry got credit for the win, improving to 1-4. He allowed 1 run on 6 hits in 6.1 innings. New York is 4th in the National League Olerud with a record of 15-23.

The Yankees got an important contribution from center fielder Shaun Anderson, who in the top of the fourth knocked a first pitch slider to right-center for a 3-run home run. It was his 12th home run of the season and put the Yankees ahead, 6-0.

"We took a roundhouse punch to the chin," said losing manager John Krobot.
