The Omaha Cyclones and Hawaii Tropics put on a pitchers' duel.

Elvin Hilliard pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Hawaii Tropics, despite Hilliard's fine outing, dropped a 2-1 decision to the Omaha Cyclones at ‘Iolani Palace. Dave Ferrell closed it out for his 19th save.

Luis Mendoza dealt the Tropics a blow in the top of the third. Batting with runners on 1st and 3rd and Omaha leading 1-0, Mendoza, who finished 5th in the FL in runs with 106 in 2047, hit a 2-1 curveball for a run-scoring single.

"We believe in ourselves and we're willing to work hard. It's a good combination," Mendoza told the Omaha Bulletin.

With the win, the Cyclones have a record of 35-26.
