Surfers Suffer 7-5 Loss to Stars
|
The Valencia Stars defeated the Long Beach Surfers, 7-5, at Vito Costantino Memorial Stadium today. Leading the charge for Valencia was left fielder Mark Kimball. He went 3-5 with 3 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Hotha Buyoya, now 1-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3 innings. Martin Román picked up the save, his 27th.
In the top of the 4th, the Stars grabbed the lead on a two-out double by Habib bin Ameen. Valencia at the time was trailing 5-4, but bin Ameen's 2-run double off Barry Short put his team in front.
"There's a lot of passion in our clubhouse," said bin Ameen. "When we put it together we're a great ball club."
The 4th-place Stars now have a win-loss record of 66-69.
