4-3 Surfers Win over Kernels Evens Season Record
|
The Long Beach Surfers withstood a fine game by Des Moines first baseman Ricardo Norman at Edward Murphy Memorial Stadium, to upend the Kernels, 4-3. Norman was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Frank Geddes, credited with the win in relief, is now 1-1. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. Earning his 4th save for Long Beach was Benno Steeneveld.
The result might have been different, had it not been for 28-year old second baseman Austin Nolan. Nolan had a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Surfers ahead, 3-1. For the game, Nolan had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
Long Beach manager Mike Ellis said his team played a "no nonsense" game.
The 6th-place Surfers improved to 26-26.
