Black Sox Edged, 4-1, by Des Moines
|
Des Moines Kernels starter Steven Clayton pitched his team past the Chicago Black Sox, 4-1. The save went to Scott Everard, his 6th this season. Des Moines sits at 13-12 in the early going.
Des Moines used the timely hitting of Eugene Wolfe to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Kernels on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Wolfe, "one at-bat at a time."
