Skidding Lumberjacks Lose 6th Straight
|
The Portland Lumberjacks got a sterling performance from pitcher Manuel Camacho, but the Hawaii Tropics still prevailed, 7-3. Camacho threw 6.0 innings of 3-hit ball. Luis Pérez snagged the win in relief. In 2.1 innings, the right-hander allowed 1 run on 1 hit. He's now 1-0 on the season. To call the performance of the 2058 Lumberjacks disappointing is an understatement.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Angelo Lucchesi came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Portland pitcher Scott Bugbie, he hit a 0-1 screwball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Hawaii on top, 4-3.
"The vibe's good," said Hawaii manager Rich Kerr. "We've got to keep it going."
