Sluggers Come Up Short at Chicago, 7-6
|
The Chicago Black Sox downed the Louisville Sluggers, 7-6, at Vinnie Vitale Stadium. The Black Sox were led by Bret Powers. He was 4-4 with 4 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. The winner was Carlos Moya, who threw 82 pitches over 6 innings. The right-hander was charged with 1 run on 5 hits. Mike Baker got credit for the save for Chicago. It was his 6th of the year.
With Chicago leading 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Powers hit a run-scoring single off Louisville hurler George MacFadden. It was the 7th hit of the season for Powers and put his team ahead, 7-0.
"Nothing is scripted in this game," said Powers.
The Black Sox, now 9-5, have been playing some good baseball.
