Vancouver right fielder Elmer Willis had a good game, even if his team did not. The Mounties dropped a 7-5 decision to Long Beach at Vito Costantino Memorial Stadium. Willis went 3 for 4 with a home run and a triple, while scoring 2. Long Beach reliever Juan Martínez was the winner. His record is now 4-0. The losing pitcher was Alejandro Morín. Owen McKelvey collected save number 9.

Long Beach took a 5-4 lead on Terry Cole's 22nd home run of the season. The solo home run came off Vancouver pitcher Alejandro Morín in the bottom of the seventh.

"We'll take some time to unwind," said Cole, "and then get after it again."

Long Beach, at 64-56, occupies second place in the Frick League Pacific Division.
