Kensaku Kato was a vital contributor to the 5-4 San Fernando victory over Hawaii. The Bears second baseman was 1-1 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The winner was San Fernando reliever Bryan Longstaff, now 1-0. The loser was Phil Thompson. The Bears' win now puts them at 55-55.

The game came to a dramatic end. In the bottom of the ninth, with San Fernando trailing 4-2, Kato hit a sinker from Phil Thompson for a 3-run home run, giving the Bears the walk-off win.

"What a buzz," said Kato after it was over.
