London Tops Cairo Again, 5-2
|
The London Monarchs got a strong performance from pitcher David Torres, who stymied the visiting Cairo Pharaohs en route to a win, 5-2, in Game 2 of the GBC Championship by Denny's & Marko Worldwide today. The Pharaohs could never get a bead on the right-handed Torres, who threw 6.2 innings allowing 2 runs. The Monarchs now hold a 2-0 in the best-of-9 series.
Had Dan Adams not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Adams hit a 3-run home run. That made the score 5-2, in favor of the Monarchs.
"We aren't quitting," Cairo manager Stan Hampton said. "Yeah, the odds are definitely in their favor, but they've got to earn it."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at London Stadium in London.
