Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Mad Popes
|
Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Valencia Stars home opener. Juan García started for the home team against Joe King for the Sacramento Mad Popes. The Stars were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 6-1, Sacramento. Juan García, though, was impressive.
Sacramento center fielder Amphibian Johnson contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the ninth. With two down, he hit a fastball to right-center field for a 2-run single. It was his 2nd hit of the season and put the Mad Popes ahead, 4-1.
"I thought we played a nice game," Johnson told the Sacramento Chronicle. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
