Surfers Sink Mad Popes, 3-0
|
In a well-pitched game between the Long Beach Surfers and the Sacramento Mad Popes, pitcher Barry Short was superb. The Long Beach right-hander helped his team win, 3-0. Picking up the save was Owen McKelvey, his 14th. The second-place Surfers improved to 79-66.
The Surfers got a big at-bat from designated hitter Terry Cole. For the game, Cole was 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 30th home run of the season gave Long Beach a 2-0 lead.
Short said the team appreciates the support from the fans. "I'm glad we could reward them with a good win," he said after the game.
