Salazar Belts 5 Hits
|
Freddie Salazar got the glory and the headlines, but the South Bend Silver Hawks left with the win. The Savannah left fielder easily handled the Silver Hawks pitching, going 5-for-6, but his Savannah Sand Gnats came out on the short end of the 3-2 score.
Salazar told BNN reporters in the postgame interview he would happily trade "three or four" of his hits for a win.
"Heck, maybe even all of them," he said with a laugh. "Right now, it just seems like one loss in a long season but who knows what it could mean at the end."
Freddie Salazar singled in the 2nd, flied out in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 9th, singled in the 11th and singled in the 13th.
This year, Salazar has collected a .275 batting average to date with 119 hits in 433 at-bats, 66 RBIs, 20 home runs and scored 60 times. He has played in 108 games.
