Shirai Fires No-Hitter Against Port Elizabeth
Monday, September 2nd , 2058
Pretoria Rhinos starter Satoshi Shirai came up big today at Pretoria Field with an exceptional 5-0 outing against the Port Elizabeth Windies. Not only did he whip them, but Shirai held them hitless, too.
"My arm was a bit sore in warmups," confessed Shirai. "Sometimes you go out there and you're not feeling all that hot. You get into the game and all of a sudden in the seventh inning you look up and see the scoreboard and think to yourself, 'Oh, my goodness, I have a no-hitter!' You're so focused on what you're doing, it just happens."
In the course of the no-hitter, Shirai collected 11 strikeouts and surrendered 3 walks -- a day good enough to get his name in the history books.
Presently Shirai has a 9-10 mark in 25 starts with a 3.63 ERA. He has given up 163 hits in 178.1 innings, struck out 151 and issued 81 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .247 batting average against him.
