 | Benítez Hitless, Stopped by Mules Friday, August 9th, 2041 Late in the game, all eyes in Lisa Rinna Field were on Juan Benítez as he stepped into the batter box. His 21-game hitting streak was on the line, and he had a zero in the hit column on the day. Sadly for Benítez, it was not meant to be -- the zero would stay and the streak would end. If there was a silver lining for Benítez today, it was that his Grand Junction Gold Sox won the game anyway, stopping the Medford Mules by the score of 6-4. "Winning took some of the disappointment out of it," Benítez told reporters in the clubhouse. "Looking back on it, it was a great experience. Not too many players can say they had a hit in 21 straight games. It's something I will always remember." This year Benítez has hit at a .310 clip with 62 RBIs, 17 home runs and 55 runs scored. |   |
