Gutiérrez Hitless, Stopped by Scorpions
Thursday, August 11th , 2061
Odessa designated hitter Ángel Gutiérrez went 0-for-4 in Odessa's 2-1 triumph over the Death Valley Scorpions, snapping his 23-game hitting streak.
Gutiérrez spoke to BNN after the game and said he "knew the hitting streak would end sooner or later."
"I just would have preferred later," he said with a laugh. "It was fun though."
When Gutiérrez made an out in his last chance at the plate, his teammates congratulated him in the dugout. In the clubhouse after the game, he seemed unbothered by the streak ending.
"There's nothing scientific about it, that's for sure," Scorpions manager Amato Cruz said of Gutiérrez's streak. "He had a nice little run. Let him start another one when we finish the series here."
In 59 games this year, Gutiérrez has posted a .368 average and put up these numbers: 7 home runs, 39 RBIs and 33 runs scored.
