They came up empty when it mattered against San Francisco Doves left-hander Gunner Patterson, who scattered 5 hits across 9 innings and held the Scorpions scoreless. "We had 5 hits so I know he wasn't completely untouchable, but he was close," Death Valley manager Amato Cruz said later. Patterson chalked up 10 strikeouts and 1 walk in the 4-0 Doves win.
