Doubleday Series Goes the Distance, Portland Prevails Thursday, October 19th , 2051 The Portland Lumberjacks are heading to the Cartwright Cup, having narrowly defeated the Nashville Bluebirds. Portland edged Nashville in the series 4-3, with a win at Les Paul Field in the clinching game by a 8-7 margin. Ernest McBride turned in a strong offensive performance for the Lumberjacks and got series MVP for his efforts. "I'll never turn down another trophy for my mantle, another accomplishment to remember once my career is over," he said. "What I would really remember, though, is a Monty Brewster Memorial Series win." It remains to be seen how the playoffs will conclude, but if McBride continues to swing a hot bat, his team will no doubt have a chance. For the series, he hit .419 with a .500 on-base percentage. He had 5 home runs, 10 RBI and scored 11 runs. The Portland Lumberjacks will play against the Yellow Springs Nine in the next round.
