 | Sacramento-Long Beach Trade: Allen for bin Mubarak Thursday, August 25th, 2044 You can't always get what you want, but sometimes you find a deal anyway. The Baseball News Network is reporting that Sacramento and Long Beach have made a swap with 27-year-old CF Rocky Allen being shipped to the Surfers and in return the Mad Popes would get 18-year-old minor league C Farid bin Mubarak and $5,000,000 in cash. Sacramento general manager Doug Olmsted said the two sides were close to a blockbuster trade before agreeing upon a smaller scale transaction. "This is just a bit of housekeeping compared to what we wanted to do," he said. "I won't name names, but the potential deal we were close to making would have certainly grabbed some headlines." A source inside the Sacramento organization said the two sides might not be done dealing, and another transaction could be in the works. Sacramento will retain a portion of Allen's remaining contract. This year Allen has hit at a .230 clip with 99 hits, 22 home runs, 65 RBIs and 51 runs scored. |   |
