Escobedo Raps Charleston for 5 Hits
|
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Héctor Escobedo, it came around today.
The 26-year-old left fielder scattered hits all over The Bear Stearns Slum to pace the Duluth Dragons to a 9-4 victory over the Charleston Clippers.
Charleston skipper Dai-lin Chin told reporters in the press room that "Escobedo deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Escobedo hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Héctor Escobedo tripled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, hit a sac fly in the 7th and hit an RBI triple in the 9th.
In 65 games this season Escobedo is batting .340 with 90 hits and 10 home runs. He has scored 35 runs and driven in 54.
