The Mexico City Aztecs had to overcome a good performance from Calgary pitcher Shinsui Hasegawa to claim a 3-2 win at The Stockyard. Hasegawa went 6 innings and allowed no runs. John Avery came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. His record now stands at 1-0. Mexico City now has a record of 2-4.
Runs were few and far between in this one. So, Marco Acheson's at-bat with one out in the top of the ninth was crucial. The Mexico City first baseman drew a walk, driving in 1 run, to give his team a 3-2 lead.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Mexico City manager Felipe Murillo said.
