Sacramento Gets 2-1 Road Win
|
Both teams had their chances, but the Sacramento Mad Popes eventually prevailed.
The Twin Cities River Monsters wasted an inspired, 5-inning effort from starter Erik Brooks, falling 2-1 to the Sacramento Mad Popes at Land O' Lakes Ballpark. Sacramento reliever Boulos Naim picked up the win, upping his record to 3-1. David Prigent took the loss.
The River Monsters had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Mad Popes going into the top of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 31-year old right fielder John Hopkins came to the plate. Hopkins hit a solo home run on a 2-1 fastball from Twin Cities hurler David Prigent. It was Hopkins's 2nd home run of the year.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Sacramento manager Fernando Pacheco said.
The victory gives Sacramento a record of 31-22.
