The Yellow Springs Nine turned back the Vancouver Mounties, 6-5, at Northwoods Outpost. David Simpson, in particular, had a fine performance. He was 3-5 with 3 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Takehide Gertrudes got the win, improving to 5-0. He held the Mounties to 1 run on 6 hits over 5.2 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 2. Gerald Rogers collected save number 13.
With Yellow Springs leading 1-0 in the top of the third, Simpson hit a run-scoring single off Vancouver hurler Steve Warren. It was the 36th hit of the season for Simpson and put his team ahead, 2-0.
"I like winning," Simpson told the Yellow Springs Today. "I may joke around, but when it comes down to it, winning is the most important thing."
Yellow Springs is now 19-24.
